Come, let us prepare, We Brothers that are, Assembled on merry Occasion; Let’s drink, laugh and sing; Be he beggar or King; Here’s a health to an Accepted Mason. Chorus: Let’s drink, laugh and sing; Be he beggar or King; Here’s a health to an Accepted Mason. |
The world is in pain our secrets to gain, And still let them wonder and gaze on; They ne’er can divine The Word or Sign Of a Free and an Accepted Mason. Chorus: They ne’er can divine The Word or Sign Of a Free and an Accepted Mason. |
’Tis this and ’tis that, They cannot tell what, Nor why the Great Men of the Nation, Should Aprons put on, And make themselves one With a Free and an Accepted Mason. Chorus: Should Aprons put on, And make themselves one. With a Free and an Accepted Mason. |
Great Kings Dukes and Lords have laid by their swords, Our Mist’ry to put a good grace on; And ne’er been ashamed To hear themselves named With a Free and an Accepted Mason. Chorus: And ne’er been ashamed To hear themselves named With a Free and an Accepted Mason. |
Antiquity’s pride We have on our side, To keep up our old reputation; There’s naught but what’s good To be understood By a Free and an Accepted Mason. Chorus: There’s naught but what’s good To be understood By a Free and an Accepted Mason. |
We’re true and sincere, And just to the fair; They’ll trust us on any occasion; No mortal can more The Ladies adore Than a Free and an Accepted Mason. Chorus: No mortal can more The Ladies adore Than a Free and an Accepted Mason. |
(All standing and joining hands, right over left) Then join hand in hand, By each Brother firm stand; Let’s be merry and put a bright face on! What mortal can boast So noble a toast As a Free and an Accepted Mason. Chorus: (thrice - slightly faster each time) What mortal can boast So noble a toast As a Free and an Accepted Mason. |

Written to celebrate Leopold Mozart's passing to the Second Degree in the Vienna Lodge 'Zur wahren Eintract' (To Preserving Harmony) Lyrics by Bro Josef Franz von Ratschky (1757-1810) Music by Bro Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) Translation by W. Bro Bill Young, PPrSGW, Vale of Nene Lodge No 7006, and founder Member of Pro Musica Lodge No 9547. Both are in the Province of Northants & Hunts. |
Version 1
Now a new Degree you enter Grasp this knowledge while you may. Travel firm down your path's centre, Knowing wisdom lies that way. He who strives and never tires To the light of truth aspires Chorus: He who strives and never tires To the light of truth aspires |
Pilgrim, keep your escort extant, With your brothers' blessing wrought! Caution at your side be constant, Steps made light with knowledge sought. Never to delusion turn; Be aware and ignorance spurn! Chorus: Never to delusion turn. Be aware and ignorance spurn! |
Truly harsh the journey thro' life; But how sweet also the prize that assuages weary trav'ler's strife, When the glorious goal greets his eyes! You have fortune on you bestowed; It is light on your road. Chorus: You have fortune on you bestowed; It is light on your road. |
Here is a further translation by Emily Ezust |
Version 2
A higher state of knowledge You are now approaching, Wandering firmly on your path, Knowing that it is the path of wisdom. Only the serene man May approach the source of light. |
Take, o Pilgrim, as an escort Your brother's blessing. Let caution be always on your side, And curiosity guide your steps! Constantly test yourself and never become Dependent on the insanity of lazy blindness. |
The journey of life is certainly rough, But sweet is also its reward, Which wanderers do await, wisely knowing That their journey will increase it. Happy is he who can say: There is light in my life's road! |

This world is so hard and so stony; That if a man is to get through, He need have the courage of Nelson, And plenty of Job’s patience too. I was asked in 2006 to source the music for 'The Merry Masons' (aka The Devonshire Waltz) for a Masonic Annual Ball in Scotland. I can only presume, that, having looked at other pages on the Internet, this music is used for Processions by the Scottish Masons. I was unable to locate the Score Sheet (or words - if any exist) but did come across a midi file which I have 'played' with and extended the play time to 3 minutes 12 seconds (as per the original request). I say 'play,' because I downloaded a free program which allowed me to change and/or add several instruments. I didn't go past mixing two instruments but I did do several versions which are included below - I apologise unreservedly in advance if you don't like it! |

This a song that was produced by Frank Wiliams, an American singer in 1906. I am not sure of some of the words and if you think you know what they are please don't hesitate to contact the webmaster. The mp3 file was provided by kind permission of the University of California, Santa Barbara, who hold the copyright. The original was recorded on a two-minute brown wax and XP cylinder record of the Columbia Phonograph Company in 1906 |
King Solomon was Ruler of the wisest of the Nations He founded that great Brotherhood we know as the Freemasons All Masons are as Brothers, rich or poor they're all akin Unless a man is tried and true he cannot enter in In sickness or in trouble they are bound to help each other No matter where a Mason goes, he'll always find a Brother George Washington was proud to be a Mason good and true And Roosevelt is a Mason, and a mighty good one too All Brother Masons, Brothers kind and true When you're in trouble they will stand by you Across the sea where e'er you be you're in your native land Wherever there's a Mason you will find a helping hand. Lodge Number 3 of Kankakee1 made Hiram Brown a Mason They had a herd of billy goats at his Initiation When Hiram Brown came in the room the goats began to sniff Then they all butted in and let poor Hiram have a biff2 They kicked poor Hiram all around they knew he had no gumption Then threw iced water on him till he thought he'd get consumption When Hiram said he'd catch a cold they said "None of your lip You cannot be a Mason, boy, unless you have the grippe3. " All Brother Masons, Brothers kind and true When you're in trouble they will stand by you Poor Hiram's Third Degree was worse than all the other two But he's a Blue Lodge Mason for they beat him black and blue. |
And for those of us on the UK side of the 'pond,' here is a quick explanation to some of the above. 1. Kankakee - is a real city in Illinois. 2. Then they all butted in and let poor Hiram have a biff - This is a Masonically obvious pun, (Hiram Abiff) basically saying that the billy goats 'head butted' Hiram. 3. You cannot be a Mason, boy, unless you have the grippe. - This is a less obvious Masonic pun and play on the word, 'grippe.' Poor Hiram is afraid he'll catch cold, sometimes flu was called 'la grippe.' As an aside, for those of us who are not too hot on American history, there is the mention of two prominent American Masons - Theodore Roosevelt (26th US President, 1901 - 1909) who was President at the time this song was produced and of George Washington (1st US President, 1789 - 1797). A big thank you to Allan Ramsay (Lewis Lodge No. 872) for sending me the file and information and a bigger thank you to James Fulford who emailed the website (in response to 'a call for help') and kindly clarified the above points of note. |

God save our gracious Queen, Long live our noble Queen, God save our Queen. Send her victorious, Happy and glorious, Long to reign over us: God save the Queen. O Lord our God, arise, Scatter our enemies, And make them fall; Confound their politics, Frustrate their knavish tricks; On thee our hopes we fix: God save us all. Thy choicest gifts in store On her be pleased to pour, Long may she reign. May she defend our laws, And ever give us cause To sing with heart and voice, God save the Queen. |

If you ever come to Whitehaven on a Monday And if SSC are meeting on that day We'll be glad to have you with us for the evening Especially if you come from far away You'll be welcomed at our ritual in the Lodge And welcome also at our Festive Board The company we're sure you'll find is pleasing And the wits are sharper than the Tyler's sword Our Master is happy as a sand boy For years we've asked but all to no avail But now we have attained our life's ambition Because he's bought us all a pint of ale As Stewards one and all we are the greatest When calling for a drink you're always heard And notice how each evening by the last toast Your own speech is quite noticeably slurred But time is short and now we must leave you Enjoy yourselves and sing out merrily Remember that if ever down in Whitehaven We'll be more than pleased to welcome your return |

The song Auld Lang Syne is traditionally mumbled at midnight on New Year's Eve or at the end of a Ladies Night. This time, impress your friends and family by knowing all the words and all the verses! Should auld acquaintance be forgot, And never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance be forgot, And auld lang syne! CHORUS: For auld lang syne, my dear, For auld lang syne, We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet, For auld lang syne! And surely ye'll be your pint-stowp, And surely I'll be mine, And we'll tak a cup o kindness yet, For auld lang syne! CHORUS We twa hae run about the braes, And pou'd the gowans fine; But we've wander'd mony a weary fit, Sin' auld lang syne. CHORUS We twa hae paidl'd in the burn, Frae morning sun till dine, But seas between us braid hae roar'd, Sin auld lang syne. CHORUS And there's a hand my trusty fere, And gie's a hand o thine! And we'll tak a right gude-willie waught, For auld lang syne. CHORUS |
